A tire pressure monitor-only system alerts vehicle operators when a tire is underinflated, then relies on the driver to remedy the situation. That takes the driver off the road and creates downtime.
With constant pressure systems, the seals and lines are continuously pressurized – greatly increasing the odds of premature seal failure over hundreds of thousands of road miles when inflation is not required.
Constant pressure systems also require large hubcap vents that remain susceptible to contamination and water ingestion.
