SOUTHFIELD, Mich
. . . . Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that its engine boosting, fuel- and emission-saving technologies are on six of the top 10 engines chosen by Ward’s Auto World at its annual ceremony held at the North American International Auto Show.
“Eaton provides several key technologies that help automakers boost horsepower, torque and efficiency while downsizing engines,” said Joseph P. Palchak, president, Eaton’s Vehicle Group.
Eaton technologies were used on the following Ward’s recognized engines:
Superchargers – Eaton Twin Vortices Series™ (TVS):
• Audi S4 -- 3.0L TFSI V-6
Valves – High performance, super alloy & light weight:
• BMW 335d -- 3.0L I-6
• Ford Fusion Hybrid -- 2.5L I-4 HEV
• Chevrolet Equinox -- 2.4L DI I-4 L-850 Ecotec
• Volkswagen Jetta TDI -- 2.0L I-4
Valve Actuation – Friction reducing roller rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters:
• Hyundai Genesis sedan -- 4.6L V-8 Tau Engine
• Volkswagen Jetta TDI -- 2.0L I-4
“We’re honored to partner with automakers on these leading powertrains that continue to increase performance while reducing emissions and fuel consumption,” added Palchak.
“Automakers are proving that conventional internal-combustion engines are capable of remarkable gains in output, refinement, fuel efficiency and all-around driving enjoyment,” said Tom Murphy, executive editor, Ward’s, one of six judges of this year’s competition.
For the past 15 years, Ward’s editors have selected the best production engines sold in the U.S. that have a base price under $52,500. This year’s winners were chosen from 34 entrants.
