GSA Selects Eaton for its Smart Buildings Initiative

Date: April 7, 2011

Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building Modernization Project is funded by Federal Stimulus, part of a broader federal energy efficiency initiative

PITTSBURGH… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that it will design and furnish new systems to replace power distribution, power control and electrical metering equipment as part of the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building Modernization Project in Portland, Oregon. The initial contract of $600,000 stems from a $133 million federal stimulus grant for the General Services Administration (GSA) to improve energy efficiency and comfort in the 17-floor, 517,000 square-foot structure, which opened in 1975 and is named for two former Oregon Congressional representatives.

The work will be part of the GSA’s Smart Buildings Initiative, and will help provide a template for more than 20 federal office buildings with similar needs. To be completed in 2013, the project will enable the Edith Green building to meet LEED Platinum standards by integrating innovative, sustainable technologies. It is the largest American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project in GSA Region 10, which covers Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Washington.

“Eaton is well positioned to help the General Services Administration with this important project, which will increase energy efficiency and serve as a roadmap for similar green building initiatives throughout the nation,” said Kevin McLean, senior vice president, Global Marketing – Electrical Sector, Eaton Corporation.
